CARING FOR YOUR LATEX

Treat your latex rubber garments as luxury items. If you look after your latex, it will provide you with years of enjoyment and sensuous pleasure.

Latex rubber is a natural material that requires some basic care. The following recommendations will help to ensure a long life for your valuable latex garments.

DRESSING Before attempting to put on your latex, apply talc powder liberally on the inside of the garment to make it easier to slip into. Some people may prefer to use a silicone based lubricant instead to slip into the tightest latex garments. Simply apply all over the body and slide in. If you are having trouble getting the garment on, you're not using enough talc or lube.

Damage to latex clothing usually happens when it is being put on or when removing the garment. Always handle latex with care. Be sure to watch out for long fingernails or jewellery as these can rip the latex quite easily. Some people wear cotton gloves while pulling on latex to avoid damaging the garment.

To adjust the garment once you have slipped it on, slide your hand flat between your skin and the latex, pull away with your whole hand to shift the garment into place. Remember, pulling on tight latex clothing too enthusiastically can leave finger dimples and or tear the garment. The tighter it is stretched, the more easily it can tear.

SHINING Latex rubber garments can be worn with a matt finish or with high polished finish. To achieve a polished finish, spray with a silicone product such as a silicone based lubricant. The longer you have a garment and the more often it is shined, the shinier it will remain.

Spray or spread a liberal amount onto the garment and gently smear it with a soft, lint-free cloth or bare hands until the surface gleams. Don't rub hard as you will either wipe away all the shine or you may even damage the surface. It may take a few treatments to achieve a high polished gloss.

Oil based products should be avoided. Oils, greases and solvents destroy latex rubber.

CLEANING Wash in warm water with a few drops of antibacterial soap or mild soapy water. Wipe both inside and out with soft wet cloth then hang garment inside out on plastic hanger.away from sunlight. Dust liberally with talcum powder once dry.

Do not iron, dry-clean, or put latex garments into a washing machine or dryer.

STORAGE After washing and drying, lightly powder the latex garment with talcum powder to absorb any moisture, and keep it in a cool dark place. Best stored in a plastic bag flat on a shelf, drawer or place it in a storage box. It is not recommended that you hang your garment as it may stretch out of shape.

Do not store latex near sunlight as the UV light causes rapid deterioration and it will chalk or turn white. Also keep it away from copper-based items (money, jewellery- etc) because it will stain.

TEARS & REPAIRS Should a seam split or you tear the latex, you still may be able to repair it. To patch a tear in your latex garment, you will need the following itmes: rubber cement, medium grain sand paper, rubbing alcohol and a small latex rubber patch. The easiest thing is to buy a bicycle inner tube repair it as it contains most of the items you will need.

You will have to clean the surfaces you are gluing together with the rubbing alcohol. Make sure the latex has been washed to remove any residue. Gently buff surfaces with the sand paper, this will help strengthen the bond. Apply glue in small patches at a time. When the glue is still tacky but not wet, press the surfaces together to remove all the air. The latex may curl up but don't worry as it will gradually uncurl when the glue begins to dry. Let the glue dry overnight before testing the patch.
